What lies beneath - redux

What lies beneath - redux

Part two in the series

This next bike has really highlighted the importance of regular maintenance.

If Hong Kong is hard on regular road bikes, it is brutal on TT bikes. A punishing training schedule, salt water from swim training, hours on the trainer all combine to make for a gruesome mix when left unattended.

This is an extreme case, no question!

The front end of the bike was pretty bad, but nothing some grease and new bearings couldn't solve. What we have in the bottom bracket shell is irreparable damage. Being made from aluminium, it has grown larger as it corroded and destroyed the frame as it pushed its way through the carbon.

Minor maintenance and regular servicing would have prevented this.
